What Canada PM Justin Trudeau said in his congratulatory post for PM Modi

NEW DELHI: Justin Trudeau, the the PM of Canada extended his congratulations to PM Modi on Wednesday for his victory in the Lok Sabha elections. However, Trudeau emphasized the importance of “committing to human rights, diversity, and the rule of law.”

What Canada PM said?

“Congratulations to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his electoral victory. Canada stands ready to work with his government to advance the relationship between our nations’ peoples—anchored to human rights, diversity, and the rule of law,” Trudeau said.

Since Trudeau claimed that Indian agents killed Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a Khalistani terrorist, on Canadian soil, the relations between Canada and India have been strained.

However, India dismissed the accusation as “ridiculous and unfounded”. NIA classified Nijjar as a terrorist in 2020. Last year, he was killed outside Surrey.

BJP secured 240 seats in the recently-concluded Lok Sabha elections, making it the single largest party. However, falling 32 seats short of a simple majority and necessitating reliance on its National Democratic Alliance partners, the party experienced a notable decline.
