UK’s First Lady Akshata Murthy bags top spot on Britain’s best-dressed list

Akshata Murthy, wife of Britain’s Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, has topped the Tatler magazine’s list of the Best Dressed People in Britain.

The 43-year-old businesswoman and designer grabbed the top place on Tatler magazine’s list of best-dressed persons, along with Princess Beatrice’s husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, and Love Actually star Bill Nighy.

Akshata Murthy has been called the “First Lady Fabulous” by the editors of Tatler because of her immaculate sense of style. The well-known businesswoman and fashion designer, who regularly dons cool-girl labels, is recognized for her contemporary glitz.

She became well-known last year when she reportedly left the house for the school run wearing a pair of JW Anderson slippers that cost £570, according to the Independent. After being pictured wearing £445 Gucci sneakers and a leather outfit that cost more than £1,000, she also gained a reputation for her “quiet luxury” or “stealth wealth” style, according to The Independent.

Chandler Tregaskes’s appreciation for Akshata Murthy

“The coveted number one spot in Tatler’s best-dressed list belongs to the chatelaine of Downing Street, Akshata Murty,” said Chandler Tregaskes, style editor for Tatler.

“Her stream of ‘It’ ensembles would have given Jackie Kennedy a run for her money. Though she lacks the pillbox hats and layered pearls of yore, Mrs. Sunak is a shining example of modern-day diplomatically decadent dressing that steals the show,” he added.

Akshata’s formal appearances have always made news, thanks to her subtle and relatable style. Her appearance at the G7 meeting in Japan was one of her most talked-about appearances and won her great admiration from stylists all over the world.

Another look of hers that garnered a lot of attention was a black fascinator with a light blue embroidered dress combo which she flaunted during King Charles III’s coronation in May.

She is the daughter of Indian billionaire and Infosys founder NR Narayana Murthy and novelist and philanthropist Sudha Murty. Murty founded her own clothing line, Akshata Designs, after earning a degree in design and merchandising from the Los Angeles Fashion Institute.
