All about Pharrell Williams’ debut Louis Vuitton show at Paris Fashion Week

Singer Pharrell Williams showcased his debut collection for Louis Vuitton at the Paris Fashion Week at the Pont Neuf bridge in Paris. This was the excellent kickstart of his tenure as creative director of the design label. Models strode down the gold-painted runway to live music in a show that cemented the LVMH-owned (LVMH.PA) brand in popular culture. They exhibited tracksuits with pearl embellishments, furry coats, and dazzling jackets with the brand’s unique checkmark pattern in a variety of sizes, colours, and camouflage hues.

People assembled forth the Seine River to snag a glimpse of the outfits, which followed LV’s strategy of fusing amenity and street flair. “I’m the second Black man to ever experience this on the planet, the biggest fashion house in the world,” Williams said in an interview before the show, referring to his job since February.

The show was an homage to the late Virgil Abloh, the former creative director of LV. “My brother Virgil was the first. He made so many strides for the house and did so many things. He brought skate culture into this world – while being an American Black man. It’s unreal the fact that I get to do this as well,” said Williams.

Williams first came into reference with the Arnault family in 2004 while working with Marc Jacobs to create sunglasses for Louis Vuitton.

“The idea was to instill the idea that Louis Vuitton is also the master of tailoring of a dandy man who wants to be somewhat more elegant,” Vuitton CEO Pietro Beccari said of his brief to Williams.

“That was not difficult because that’s him. What you see on the catwalk is Pharrell, multiplied by 70 looks,” he added.
