Police on Sunday, detained 8 men for gangrape of a little girl in a village in Maharashtra’s Palghar district. The individuals involved raped the teenage girl at an empty bungalow in their beach community. It happened on the night between Friday and Saturday, then took her to the shore where they abused her again.
A Palghar district rural police spokeswoman said that Satpati police station has opened a gang-rape complaint against all eight suspects. Also adding that the victim was about 16 years old.
Official Statement by police:
“In her complaint lodged on Saturday, the victim said that her ordeal began at 8 pm on December 16. It continued till 10 am the next day, the accused took her to an unoccupied bungalow in Mahim village where they took turns to rape her. Later, they also took her to the seashore where they again sexually assaulted her in the bushes,”
According to her complaint, the police detained the eight suspects early on Sunday and filed a case against them under several sections. It included the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act and the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including sections 376 (D) (gang-rape), 366 (A) (procuration of a minor girl), 341 (wrongful restraint), 342 (wrongful confinement), and 323 (voluntarily causing harm), he said.
Further investigation is going on by the police.

It is sad to see that every other day we get to hear news about gangrape. It’s more sad that no proper actions takes place and the accused eventually roam free. It is important to have strict and rigid laws in order to bring a change.
Importance of such laws is also important so that women can roam around freely without looking over their shoulders. The court and the police must make an example of all those who are found guilty for this heinous crime. And thus, others don’t even think about doing such shameful acts.
