As Northern Indian prepares for winter, the southern part is still not done experiencing the rains. The Met department has predicted that Cyclone Mendous will hit the coasts of Tamil Nadu. The department has also predicted very heavy rainfall which may lead to loss of infrastructure and maybe even life.
The Met department predicts that most locations in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal area will get moderate rain on Friday. There is a chance of scattered extremely heavy rain over the Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, and Villupuram districts of Tamilnadu and Puducherry. Heavy to very heavy rain is also possible in some locations.
Over the Tamilnadu districts of Tiruvallur, Chennai, Ranipet, Vellore, Tirupattur, Tiruvannamalai, Kallakurichi, and Cuddalore. Isolated areas are likely to see heavy to very severe rain. Over the Dharmapuri, Salem, Namakkal, Tiruchirappalli, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Madurai, and Sivaganga districts of Tamilnadu. IMD predicts heavy rainfall in some of the isolated locations.

Preparation for the Cyclone:
In 10 districts in the Cauvery delta region, Chennai, its three neighbouring districts, and Cuddalore, 12 teams of almost 400 troops from the National Disaster Response Force and the State force are on duty, according to the Tamil Nadu government. Today, the schools and colleges are to remain closed.
Greater Chennai Corporation has and is taking precautionary measures, which includes closing all parks and playgrounds till further notice. The Chennai Corporation also requested that people park their vehicles in open places rather than under trees on tomorrow’s beaches.
Tamil Nadu government is urging citizens to stay away from unnecessary travel and always have a flashlight or candle. Also, batteries, dry fruit, and water on hand. The government is also asking all to take precautions, including a prior announcement of the release of water from reservoirs.
According to a defence announcement, the Coast Guard has also taken a number of precautions in light of the Cyclone Mendous. The Coast Guard is urging all oil rigs and offshore operations to safeguard the safety of the personnel. Also, the fishing vessels are to return to port.
Therefore, all the citizens of the areas under risk are requested to stay in their homes or take shelter. Kindly avoid travel and keep sufficient food with you for the next 3-4 days.
