We have all seen Ravish Kumar on NDTV every now and then. The very famous Journalist is popular for his credible news. He used to host shows like Prime Time, Hum Log, Ravish ki Report, etc.
On Wednesday, Ravish Kumar, Senior Executive Editor of NDTV India, announced his resignation “with immediate effect,”. One day after Prannoy Roy and Radhika Roy resigned as directors of NDTV promoter company RRPR Holding Private Limited.
In 1996, Kumar joined the New Delhi Television Network (NDTV), and since then, he has been involved with its networks. He served as the host of various news-related programmes on NDTV India. In addition to the Ramon Magsaysay Award in 2019, Kumar has received the Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Award thrice.
The channel has said in an internal mail that Ravish’s resignation is from immediate effect. “Few journalists have impacted people as much as Ravish did. This reflects in the immense feedback about him — in the ‘crowds he draws everywhere; in the prestigious awards and recognition he has received, within India and internationally,” read the mail. “Ravish has been an integral part of NDTV for decades, his contribution has been immense, and we know he will be successful as he embarks on a new beginning,” the mail stated.
Adani Group Acquisition of NDTV:
On November 22, the Adani group launched an open offer that runs until December 5. It is in order to start the process of acquiring an additional 26% share in the business.
If the open bid is successful, Adani group will have a controlling ownership of little over 55% and may then try to remove Roys from the channel’s board. At the Adani Group, Pugalia serves as both the company’s CEO and editor-in-chief of media projects.
The Adani acquisition probably plays an integral role in Ravish Kumar’s resignation. Ravish has always been open about how he likes news to be credible and is against fake news. However, Adani’s political connections might put the news credibility on risk. Ravish does not want that.
Do you think Ravish’s decision to leave the channel was correct? Will the Adani Acquisition risk the credibility of news on the channel?
