SAD patriarch Prakash Singh Badal passes away at 95

Shiromani Akali Dal patriarch and the former chief minister of Punjab Prakash Singh Badal passed away at the age of 95 on Tuesday evening. He was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of Fortis Hospital in Mohali on April 21. He was facing severe difficulties in breathing.

The hospital said in a statement that he had been on NIV (non-invasive ventilation) and HFNC (high-flow nasal cannula) support along with medical management. Prof (Dr) Digambar Behera along with the Pulmonology and critical care team supported by Cardiology were managing him.

He is survived with a son SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal and a daughter Parneet Kaur.

Prakash Singh Badal holds various records in his career.

He was the youngest sarpanch of Badal Village back then in 1952.

He became the youngest Chief Minister of Punjab in 1970, and also the oldest CM in 2012. Furthermore, he also served as the chief minister five times from 1970-71, 1977-80, 1997-2002, 2007-12, and 2012-17.

Rajnath Singh, the defence minister expressed his condolences on his demise on Twitter.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed his grief by saying that he was a colossal figure in Indian politics and a remarkable statesman.Modi tweeted, “Extremely saddened by the passing away of Parkash Singh Badal Ji. He was a colossal figure in Indian politics and a remarkable statesman who contributed greatly to our nation. He worked tirelessly for the progress of Punjab and anchored the state through critical times.”
