Supreme Court Orders Release Of Activist Held Over Post On Cow Dung

The Supreme Court has requested the quick arrival of Manipur dissident Erendro Leichombam who was captured under the National Security Act (NSA) over the disputable Facebook post that said ‘cow fertilizer and cow pee’ don’t fix Covid.

Leichombam (40) was captured alongside a neighborhood columnist, Kishorechandra Wangkhem (41) from their homes on May 13 in view of a FIR stopped by Manipur state BJP VP Usham Deban and general secretary P Premananda Meetei.

While mourning the passing of state BJP president S Tikendra Singh, who capitulated to the infection on the night of May 13, the pair had said in their Facebook posts that cow pee and cow fertilizer were no solutions for Covid-19.

During the knowing about the case, Justice DY Chandrachud said, “We can’t permit detainment of this individual in any event, for a day.”

Wangkhem and Leichombam were captured by the Manipur police under Section 153-An and 505(b)(2) of IPC and furthermore 295-A, 503, 504 and 34 of IPC.

Leichombam, who is the convenor of a Manipur-based ideological group, People’s Resurgence and Justice Alliance, was accused of subversion following his questionable Facebook post in July last year.
