‘Anyone Questioning BJP Govt’s Malpractice is Expelled as MP’: TMC’s Abhishek Banerjee

Trinamool Congress (TMC) leadership on Thursday strongly backed party MP Mahua Moitra, with party’s national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee claiming that anyone who questioned the government “about malpractices of Adani” was expelled from Parliament.

Banerjee asked how the ethics committee could act against Moitra when accusations against her were not yet proven.

“The ethics committee chairman has written that if there is anything against the MP, then investigate it. If you don’t have anything, why have you recommended her expulsion,” asked Banerjee.

“How could the committee recommend Moitra’s expulsion if it is subject to investigation? If someone wants to fight the government and ask questions about the malpractice of Adani, they are expelled from the MP’s post… Moitra is competent enough to defend herself,” Banerjee said.

Banerjee alleged double standards on the part of the ethics committee. There are several BJP MPs against whom various cases are pending, but the hearing is never scheduled, he said. “BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri had used foul language during the special session in new Parliament. Biduri’s language tried to affect the legacy of Parliament. It is still pending with the ethics committee,” he added.
