Delhi to get a new mayor after 75 days of conflict between AAP and BJP. AAP's Shelly Oberoi will be the new mayor of Delhi.

Officials declared on Wednesday that Shelly Oberoi of the Aam Aadmi Party has won the highly contested election for mayor of Delhi. Accordingly, she won by a margin of 34 votes against Rekha Gupta of the BJP.

Of of the 266 votes cast, Shelly Oberoi received 150 and Rekha Gupta 116 in the election. Which was therefore held after the AAP’s convincing Supreme Court victory.

Arvind Kejriwal, the CM of Delhi, and Manish Sisodia, the deputy CM also thanked Ms. Oberoi and the party members. “The people prevailed; the thugs lost. Hooliganism was defeated today in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, and the Delhi people won “declared Mr. Kejriwal.

Long conflict between AAP and BJP:

The mayoral elections have been delayed three times since the AAP won the civic polls in December. This is due to a long struggle with the BJP.

Oberoi had filed a petition with the Supreme Court to dispute the BJP’s claim that the alderman, 10 people chosen by the capital’s lieutenant governor, a representation of the BJP-led government at the Centre, are eligible to vote.

Nominated members cannot participate in the election, according to judges led by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud. “Nominated members are prohibited to run for office. The constitutional clause is extremely explicit “The judge looked on.

If the alderman had been permitted to cast a ballot, the BJP’s support would have increased from 113 to 123. In the 274-member parliament, where AAP has 150 votes, the majority threshold is 138. This however would not have changed the outcome of the Mayoral Elections.

The BJP may have won a significant portion of the Standing Committee, which is thought to be the most powerful body in the civic body, even if it would not have had an impact on the outcome of the mayoral race. AAP council members have also accused the Congress of “deal-making with the BJP” in response to the party’s announcement that it will abstain.
