Opposition Wants Vaishnaw to Quit Over Odisha Train Crash But Record of Former Rail Ministers Not So Great

The train crash in Balasore, Odisha on Friday evening cost the lives of at least 288 people and over 800 were injured setting off a massive rescue and evacuation process. The train crash happened near the Bahanaga Baazar station in Balasore district which is about 250 km south of Kolkata and 170 km north of Bhubaneswar, prompting the Railway Ministry to order a probe. 

To ensure prompt restoration at the site of the train accident in Balasore, Odisha, the Ministry of Railways has allocated significant resources, including over 1000 manpower, multiple Poclain machines, Accident Relief Trains, and Railway and Road Cranes.

Also, LIC Chairperson has announced relaxations for the victims of the Odisha train tragedy. 

A release said, “LIC Of India is deeply saddened by the tragic train accident in Balasore, Odisha on 02.06.2023.LIC Of India is committed to supporting those affected and will expedite claim settlements to provide financial relief. Shri Siddhartha Mohanty, Chairperson LIC expressed grief and said that our hearts go out to the victims and their families.”

“Shri. Siddhartha Mohanty, Chairperson, LIC, announced many concessions to mitigate the hardships of the LIC Policies’ claimants and Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana. In lieu of registered death certificates, a list of casualties published by Railway Authorities, Police, or any State or Central Government Authorities will be accepted as proof of death. A special Help Desk has been set up at the Divisional and Branch level to respond to claim-related queries and to provide assistance to claimants.”
