The 22nd Edition of the Globe’s biggest Football competition, the FIFA World Cup commenced on 20th November 2022. The host for this edition of the World Cup is Qatar. 32 teams are set to compete against each other in 64 total matches which will happen over 29 days.

The opening ceremony kicked off with cultural performances which flaunted the host country’s rich Arab Culture. A speech by Hollywood Fame Morgan Freeman followed, who gave a very enlightening message about Hope, Unity and Tolerance. Followed by a phenomenal performance by singer Jung Kook, member of the band BTS, who sung his new song “Dreamers”.

The Al Bayt Stadium, alongside fireworks, lights and sound shows, gave football fans a look they couldn’t get enough off!

The current Defending Champion of the World Cup is France, who won the last World Cup in Russia in 2018 defeating Croatia to become World Champions.

Qatar Geared Up for World Cup 2022!

In Preparation of the tournament, Qatar has left no stone unturned. A total of 8 stadiums will host the 64 matches. Each stadium unique in its own way and well equipped to handle huge number of fans who will come to watch the matches.

Qatar has therefore ensured each stadium is easy to reach by both private transport and public transport like Metro, Buses etc.

With FIFA Happening in an Arab Country, it comes at a cost, a cost of a ban on Alcohol. There has been a lot of backlash already for the same.

Football fans from countries especially like England, Spain and France are famous for consuming alcohol when enjoying the match and they are upset with the strict decision by the host country.

Will this totally sober World Cup be an issue or not? We will have to see.

The Football Happening:

For the first match, the host nation Qatar faced Ecuador, losing 2-0. There is a lot of controversy already about match fixing and players getting money to play bad.

Ofcourse, a tournament of this level is bound to have these controversies however let’s focus on the game and support our favorite teams.

As Always, we can expect tonnes of twists and turns and drama in this tournament as it always was. Safe to say football fans are in for a treat for the upcoming month.
