Jasprit Bumrah to miss the India vs Sri Lanka ODI series.

Given the significance of the upcoming series, the BCCI is leaving Jasprit Bumrah out of the three-match ODI team. The decision came on the eve of India’s series opener against Sri Lanka.

With the NCA’s instructions, BCCI is dropping Bumrah from the team for the series that begins tomorrow. This will be his first cricket assignment since October.

It is thought that Bumrah is better off being given a bit more time before making a full recovery. The India pacer has an inclination to falter after playing nonstop. However, Bumrah is anticipated to play in the World Test Championship final, the Indian Premier League, the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Which is against Australia at home in a four-Test series beginning next week, as well as the World Cup. The same will be in India later this year.

Official Statement from BCCI:

“Team India pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the upcoming 3-match ODI series against Sri Lanka. Bumrah, who was set to join the team in Guwahati ahead of the ODI series, will need some more time to build bowling resilience. This decision has been taken as a precautionary measure. The All-India Senior Selection Committee has not named any replacement for Jasprit Bumrah,” the BCCI said in a statement.

Initially, it was thought that Bumrah’s recovery from the back injury he experienced had left the BCCI pleased with his development. Bumrah’s injury flared up again after he was forced to return for the T20Is against Australia before the World Cup. Thus the BCCI chose to keep India’s top bowler away until he had fully recovered. Bumrah did not go to Guwahati, the site of the opening ODI, with the Indian team.

Despite not being included in India’s first team, Bumrah continued to upload videos of his training. Thus signaling upcoming return on social media while healing. The board ultimately chose to add him in a promising start to the new year.

Even though fans are not reacting positively on the same, claiming he deserves to play. It is probably for the better to let him recover first. He has important matches throughout the year so the rest is probably useful.
