Why MS Dhoni’s CSK Are In Top 2 In IPL 2023? Ravi Shastri Explains.

Shastri stated on ESPNcricinfo that Dhoni was "a master at putting a combination together."

The IPL 2022 season for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) was forgettable as they finished ninth out of ten teams, winning just four of their 14 games. But in IPL 2023, the team’s choice to remain confident in its players before the IPL auction in December 2022 appears to be paying off. CSK has won six of its 11 games and is now second in the standings. Former India head coach Ravi Shastri credits MS Dhoni’s ‘foresight’ in sticking by underachieving players who he thought would improve over time for the team’s success.

Shastri stated on ESPNcricinfo that Dhoni was “a master at putting a combination together.” “It makes sense. It is awareness. He would have done it with a select guys, most likely sticking with a player who might not be great in 2022 but who he believes would be excellent in 2023. He would have given the player the assurance in 2022 to put in the work. That won’t surprise me. He definitely thinks in that way, but since I’m not involved, I won’t know.

Shastri praised Dhoni’s ability for putting together an instinctive and understanding combo. He thinks Dhoni stayed with underperforming players in 2022 because he had the foresight to think that they will be valuable in 2023.

Ravi Shastri also comments on MS Dhoni and CSK’s form:

“When you look at this team right now, who appears to be almost certain to make the playoffs and who appears to be incredibly dangerous in the playoffs, two games in Chennai, it’s a squad that can go the distance. Since it has already been resolved. Tinkering will only occur if there has been an injury. Otherwise, they did it correctly,” he added.

Shastri also commended CSK’s team leadership for striking the ideal balance. With two games in Chennai, he thinks the team is strong and has a chance to win the IPL. Shastri believes that since the team is already established, any changes will be brought about by injuries.
