Over the last 2-3 years, the boycott culture has risen dramatically in India. Bollywood is the biggest victim of the boycott culture. Everytime a movie is about to release, neitzens trend the Social Medias appealing everyone to boycott the movie. It has reached a point now that people are actually getting influenced to not watch cinema. Mostly it is BJP Leaders who trend the boycotting of Bollywood movies. PM Modi has now advised BJP Leaders to refrain from making such comments.
What did PM Modi say?
In light of recent controversies surrounding Bollywood movies, PM Narendra Modi on Tuesday advised Bharatiya Janata Party members and leaders to hold off on making needless comments about unrelated topics like movies.
In his speech on the second day of the BJP’s national executive meeting, PM Modi argued that pointless comments on unimportant subjects like movies put the party’s development Programme on hold.
Numerous movies and online series have recently been the subject of controversy. This is after claims that they offended Hindu culture and sensibilities. The most recent movie to receive the most boycott requests is Shah Rukh Khan’s “Pathaan.” In the movie’s song “Besharam Rang,” which features actor Deepika Padukone wearing a saffron bikini. Some members of society—including BJP politicians like Narottam Mishra and Ram Kadam—have taken offence.
Narottam Mishra, the home minister for Madhya Pradesh, also threatened to stop the film’s release if some sequences weren’t “rectified.” The minister has referred to the scenes as “very unpleasant” and “filthy minded” productions.
Why PM Modi’s statement was necessary:
PM Modi’s advice to BJP Leaders to refrain from such comments was necessary. Mainly because many people connected Hinduism to Bollywood even if it was not relevant and that stirred up issues. Another reason why it is necessary is, people simply tend to boycott movies if the protagonists are from a different faith. This is therefore very dangerous to the idea of cinema and art. Everything is suffering from boycott culture simply because people perceive it in ways they want to.
