BJP brought up a question on the attempts of Bihar CM Nitish Kumar to forge unity among Opposition parties on Monday. The Opposition meeting, which was supposed to take place on June 12, has been postponed for now and a new date will be announced soon.
“These parties can’t decide on a fixed date for a meeting. How are they going to decide on a joint strategy and PM candidate,” said the BJP general secretary and Bihar in-charge Vinod Tawde.
Hardeep Puri, the union minister, said that the opposition parties were divided among themselves. He said, “We also want a responsible Opposition. However, this is a different kind of Opposition unity where half of the leaders are eyeing leadership roles and the other half are fighting against each other.”
“Kumar was trying to become the bridge of Opposition unity but he can’t ensure that even one bridge is completed without corruption,” said Shehnaz Poonawala, the BJP spokesperson while flooding Nitish Kumar on the collapse of an under-construction bridge at the Ganga river in Bihar.

What did Nitish Kumar say about the meeting?
The Bihar CM said the postponement of the June 12 Patna meeting was due to the Congress and DMK’s inconvenience with the date. He made a condition that next time the parties that agree to attend should make it a point to send their top-most leaders to the meeting.
He said, “We had to put off the June 12 meeting after the Congress and another party conveyed to me that they found the date inconvenient. I have asked Congress to suggest a new date after consultation with other parties. But I have made one thing very clear. All parties which agree to attend the meeting must be represented by their respective heads. If any party insists that it will be represented by someone else, that would not be acceptable. For example, there was an impression that Congress may send someone else other than its president. This was something we could not accept.”
