Lakme Fashion Week 2023 to celebrate glamour, art, sustainability. What to expect?

The countdown to one of India’s most anticipated fashion events, Lakme Fashion Week, has begun. In partnership with the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) and Reliance Brands (RBL), the iconic Lakme Fashion Week is set to make a comeback in New Delhi from October 11 to October 15, at Pragati Maidan.

The grand opening on October 10, marking Raw Mango’s remarkable comeback to LFW, will set the tone for the week. The opening show will not only showcase Sanjay Garg’s exceptional talent with the collection ‘Children of the Night’ but also introduce Lakme’s Glitterati range.

Renowned designer brands such as Tasva by Tarun Tahuliani, Kalki, and Park Avenue will all be showcasing their collections for the first time as part of this year’s Lakme Fashion Week. The esteemed German footwear brand, BIRKENSTOCK, will also bring its timeless style with a collaborative showcase with designer duo Shivan and Narresh.

When asked about their latest collections being presented at the Lakme Fashion Week 2023, designers shared their exclusive insights. While Abraham and Thakore delve into the intersection of Indian and Western fashion norms, Tarun Tahiliani aims to overturn the traditional discomfort associated with Indian wear with his menswear brand, Tasva.

Celebration of art

FDCI will also present a unique showcase titled ‘Fashion Wears Art’ at the Lakme Fashion Week, where top Indian artists will team up with frontline fashion designers for a fusion of artistic and style elements. The participating designers and artists include JJ Valaya x Waswo X Waswo, Rajesh Pratap Singh x Mithu Sen, Namrata Joshipura x Sudarshan Shetty, Rohit Gandhi + Rahul Khanna x Vibha Galhotra, Varun Bahl x A Ramachandran, HUEMN x Hanif Kureshi, Gautam Kalra x Siddharth Singh Bokolia.

Menswear galore

Celebrated couturier Tarun Tahiliani is bringing his dedicated menswear label Tasva to the forefront with a showcase during the fashion week. Comfort, as always, is his priority while bringing forth an impeccable wedding and festive collection for men.

“We want to promote Indian wear with comfort. Up until now, people had this perception that Indian wear is not comfortable, it’s not breathable, but we want to bring forth our commitment to serve the much-needed gap of comfortable Indian wear. Starting from the right blend of fabrics like cotton and silk, with a minimal polyester blend to correct cutting and construction that provides a sense of ease in wearability, Tasva is set out to give Indian wear the amplification that it deserves. The brand wants to provide consumers with a variety of well-cut and beautifully designed products for every festive and wedding occasion,” Tarun Tahiliani said.
