Delhi Budget 2025: CM Rekha Gupta Unveils ‘Historic’ ₹1 Lakh Crore Budget | Key Highlights

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta presented the Delhi budget 2025-26 in the Delhi Assembly on Tuesday, calling it a “historic” budget. With a sharp focus on infrastructure development, electricity, roads, and water, the newly formed BJP-led government has made its financial priorities clear in its first budget for the national capital.

The budget stands at ₹1 lakh crore, reflecting a 31.5% increase from the previous year. CM Gupta also highlighted the government’s commitment to end “corruption and inefficiency,” with capital expenditure doubled to ₹28,000 crore.

Key Announcements from Delhi Budget 2025-26

  • First Budget of BJP-led Government: This marks CM Rekha Gupta’s maiden budget for Delhi under the Bharatiya Janata Party’s leadership.
  • Increased Capital Expenditure: The capital expenditure budget has been expanded to ₹28,000 crore.
  • Healthcare Focus: ₹2,144 crore has been allocated to the PM Jan Arogya Yojana to strengthen public healthcare services.
  • Women’s Welfare: Under the Mahila Samridhi Yojana, ₹5,100 crore has been set aside, offering ₹2,500 per month to eligible women.
  • Improved Connectivity: ₹1,000 crore has been allocated to enhance connectivity within Delhi-NCR, with ₹3,843 crore dedicated to road and bridge infrastructure.
  • Women’s Safety: The government will install 50,000 CCTV cameras across the city to improve safety for women.
  • Affordable Meals: ₹100 crore has been allocated for establishing 100 Atal Canteens across Delhi.
  • Slum Development: ₹696 crore has been earmarked for the development of slum clusters and JJ colonies.
  • Water and Sanitation: A significant ₹9,000 crore has been allocated for clean drinking water and improved sanitation.
  • Sewage Management: ₹500 crore will be used for sewer treatment plant (STP) upgrades, along with ₹250 crore for replacing old sewer lines.
  • Yamuna River Cleaning: ₹500 crore has been set aside for the Yamuna cleanup project. CM Gupta announced that only treated water will enter the river through 40 decentralised STPs.

Reactions and Statements

Ahead of the budget presentation, Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta expressed confidence in the budget’s ability to meet public expectations. Calling it a “new beginning,” he praised CM Gupta for her efforts.

Delhi Minister Parvesh Verma also lauded the budget, calling it “historic” and anticipating positive changes for the people of Delhi.

In contrast, a recent CAG report tabled in the Assembly by CM Gupta pointed out operational inefficiencies and financial mismanagement within the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) during the previous AAP government’s tenure, leading to further criticism of the former administration.

The 2025-26 Delhi Budget reflects a strong focus on infrastructure, public welfare, and city-wide development. With substantial allocations across critical sectors, the BJP-led government aims to bring tangible improvements to the lives of Delhi’s residents.
