Former Malaysian Finance Minister Daim Zainuddin, who earlier this year pleaded not guilty to charges of failing to disclose assets, passed away early Wednesday, his lawyer confirmed.
Daim, aged 86, served as finance minister from 1984 to 1991 and again from 1999 to 2001 under former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad.
His lawyer, Gurdial Singh Nijar, confirmed the news to Reuters and stated that the funeral would take place on Wednesday.

“He had been in the ICU (intensive care unit) for the past few weeks after suffering a stroke,” Singh Nijar said, though he did not specify the cause of death.
Earlier this year, Daim, a close ally of veteran leader Mahathir, was charged under an anti-corruption law for failing to disclose assets. He had pleaded not guilty in what was one of the highest-profile graft cases involving a prominent figure.
