Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled a bold vision for the growth and development of the Global South on Wednesday.
He introduced the “MAHASAGAR” initiative, which stands for “Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions,” emphasizing its role in fostering growth and security.
“Our vision for the Global South is MAHASAGAR—Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions,” Modi said in a statement during the second and final day of his visit to this island nation.

He outlined that the vision prioritizes trade for development, capacity building for sustainable growth, and mutual security for a collective future.
Modi also highlighted Mauritius as a key partner of India and reminisced about how India’s SAGAR vision—Security and Growth for All in the Region—was first articulated in Mauritius a decade ago.
