UP CM Yogi Adityanath bans meat, liquor within Maha Kumbh 2025 periphery: ‘Sentiments of Sanatan society…’

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has banned selling and consuming liquor and meat within the Kumbh Mela premises. This decision follows a recent statement by Juna Akhara chief Mahant Hari Giri, who declared that individuals from non-Sanatan religious backgrounds would not be allowed to attend the event.

In an official press release, Adityanath emphasized that the ban was implemented out of respect for “the sentiments of Sanatan society.” The announcement was made during a Sunday meeting with representatives from 13 Akharas, Khak Chowk, Dandi Bara, and Acharya Bara.

The Maha Kumbh is set to be held in Prayagraj from January 14 to February 26 next year. On Sunday afternoon, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath conducted a review meeting to assess the preparations for the event. He confirmed that a target has been set to complete all construction work by December 15.

Adityanath also announced that the area designated for the festival will be “more than double” in size compared to the previous Kumbh in 2013.

“Prayagraj has to be made grand and beautiful with projects worth more than ₹5,600 crore. Over 7,000 shuttles and electric buses will be run for the convenience of the devotees during the Maha Kumbh. Drones will be deployed to ensure the security of the devotees during the event,” he added.
