Oscars 2025: Suriya’s ‘Kanguva’ Among 7 Indian Films in Contention, Fans Surprised

Suriya’s action-adventure film Kanguva, which released on November 14, 2024, to mixed reviews, has made its way into the contenders’ list for the Oscars 2025. Directed by Siva and co-starring Bobby Deol and Disha Patani, the big-budget production surprised fans with its inclusion.

While Suriya’s performance in the film received praise, Kanguva was criticized for its execution. A cameo by Suriya’s brother, Karthi, added to the film’s buzz. Controversy arose when Suriya’s wife, actor Jyothika, called the negative reviews “propaganda.” The film, produced by KE Gnanavel Raja under Studio Green, ends with a hint at a sequel.

Suriya is now awaiting the release of Retro, directed by Karthik Subbaraj and starring Pooja Hegde.
