3 Electrocuted In Flooded Pune After Heavy Rain, It’s Pouring In Mumbai Too

Pune: Heavy rainfall has caused severe waterlogging in several parts of Pune, leading to school closures and flooding in residential areas, particularly in Pimpri-Chinchwad. Tragically, three individuals were electrocuted while navigating through a waterlogged street.

Mumbai and nearby areas, including Thane, are also grappling with heavy rains. Waterlogging has been reported in localities such as Andheri, Sion, Chembur, Kurla, and Mumbra in Thane. Due to the flooding, the Andheri Subway in Mumbai has been closed. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) announced that Vihar Lake and Modak Sagar Lake, two of the seven lakes supplying water to the city, have started overflowing. Their capacities are 2,769 crore litres and 12,892 litres, respectively.

Three National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams have been deployed for rescue operations in Pune’s Ekta Nagar, Sinhgad Road, and Varje areas. The Baba Bhide bridge over the Mutha River is now submerged due to the rising water levels following the heavy rainfall.

Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has reviewed the situation and instructed the district administration to remain vigilant. Pune Collector Suhas Diwase has ordered the closure of all tourist spots in the district for 48 hours and announced that traffic will be restricted on bridges at risk of submersion. The district administration has also advised residents to stay indoors and only venture out if absolutely necessary.

Due to the heavy rainfall, the Khadakwasla dam has reached full capacity, prompting an alert for those living along the Mutha riverbank.

Earlier today, three individuals—Abhishek Ghanekar, Akash Mane, and Shiva Parihar—were electrocuted in the Deccan Gymkhana area while attempting to retrieve a handcart from a flooded street. The victims were street food vendors who used the cart as their stall.

In Kolhapur, the Panchganga River has crossed the danger mark, and the NDRF is actively assisting with evacuations in the affected areas.
