Delhi BJP MLAs Call for Action on Namaz on Roads, Meat Shop Closures; Congress Leader Accuses Them of Pushing ‘Hate-Driven Agendas’

Congress leader Abhishek Singhvi criticized the newly-formed Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Delhi on March 27, accusing it of “dividing communities” by promoting “hate-driven agendas.” Singhvi, a Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament (MP), condemned the BJP for what he described as a “super dangerous beginning” in the national capital.

“New BJP government in Delhi wasted no time—radicalisation over governance! From dividing communities to pushing hate-driven agendas, their priorities are clear – polarise, not perform. Delhi wanted progress, got propaganda. A super dangerous beginning,” Singhvi, a Supreme Court lawyer, said in a post on X.

The Congress leader did not reference any specific incident, but his remarks are being interpreted as a response to recent events where a BJP MLA called for action against Muslims offering prayers (namaz) on roads, while another advocated for the closure of meat shops during the upcoming Navratri festival in the national capital.

New BJP Government in Delhi: Radicalisation Over Governance!

From sowing division to pushing hate-driven agendas, their priorities are clear—polarise, not perform.

Delhi sought progress but received propaganda instead. A deeply troubling start!

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) defeated the Aam Aadmi Party government in the 2025 Delhi Assembly Elections, marking the saffron party’s return to power in the national capital after a gap of 27 years.

MLA Calls for Action Against Namaz on Roads

Shakur Basti MLA Karnail Singh has written to the Delhi Police Commissioner, requesting action to address the “inconvenience caused by namaz at public places.”

In his letter dated March 25, Singh asserted that prayers conducted on roads and other public spaces hinder traffic flow and disrupt essential services.

“In our city, offering namaz on roads and public places disrupts traffic, causing inconvenience to the general public. Many times, ambulances, school buses, and other essential services are also affected due to this reason,” he wrote in the letter in Hindi as reported by news agency PTI

Singh, a first-time MLA, stressed the importance of maintaining public order and smooth traffic flow, urging the police to ensure that “religious activities are conducted only at designated locations and private premises.”

Singh also leads the BJP’s Temple Cell in Delhi, established in 2022 to strengthen connections with priests in the city. He defeated AAP leader and former health minister Satyendar Jain by a margin of 20,998 votes in last month’s elections.

His letter comes during the holy month of Ramadan, ahead of the last Friday on March 27, when large gatherings of Muslims are expected for afternoon prayers at mosques across the capital.

Another MLA Calls for Meat Shop Closures

Before Singh’s remarks, fellow BJP MLA Ravinder Singh Negi called for the closure of meat shops across Delhi during the upcoming Navratri festival. Negi stated that even if the directive is not enforced citywide, he would push to ensure shops remain shut in his Patparganj constituency.

“After 27 years, we have a government here, and we will demand that meat shops remain closed across Delhi. Even if that doesn’t happen city-wide, I will ensure closure in my Patparganj constituency,” Negi, the BJP MLA from Patparganj seat said.

Negi emerged victorious in the 2025 Delhi Assembly Election, defeating UPSC trainer Avadh Ojha from the prominent Patparganj seat, previously held by Aam Aadmi Party leader Manish Sisodia.

In October of the previous year, Ravinder Negi, then serving as a municipal councillor from Vinod Nagar in East Delhi’s Patparganj area, faced controversy after videos circulated on social media showing him urging a shop owner to change his dairy’s name to reflect that it was operated by a Muslim.
