Delhi CM Atishi Retains Kalkaji Seat, Defeats BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri by 3,500 Votes

Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Atishi secured victory in the Kalkaji constituency, defeating Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former Lok Sabha MP Ramesh Bidhuri by a margin of 3,500 votes in the 2025 assembly election.

The contest was tightly fought, with Bidhuri initially leading as the Election Commission of India began counting votes. However, Atishi gained momentum in the final rounds, securing her win.

The Kalkaji race was among the most closely watched in this election, featuring a face-off between Atishi, a senior AAP leader, and Bidhuri, making it a key battleground.

Atishi took office as Delhi’s chief minister in September 2024 following Arvind Kejriwal’s resignation, becoming the youngest person to hold the position at 43.

Seeking a second consecutive term from Kalkaji, she aimed to strengthen her leadership and continue AAP’s governance model in the national capital.

Atishi’s political journey has been deeply rooted in policy advocacy and grassroots activism. She joined AAP in 2013, playing a pivotal role in shaping the party’s policies.

In 2015, she actively participated in the Jal Satyagraha movement in Madhya Pradesh alongside activist Alok Agarwal, advocating for water rights.

Her first major electoral challenge came in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, where she contested from East Delhi but lost to BJP’s Gautam Gambhir. However, she rebounded in 2020 with a decisive win in the Kalkaji assembly seat, securing a victory margin of over 11,000 votes.
