Spanish PM Sanchez arrives in Vadodara for India visit

Spanish PM Pedro Sanchez arrived early Monday (October 28, 2024) in Vadodara, Gujarat, according to officials. His flight touched down at Vadodara airport around 1:30 a.m. as he commenced his first official visit to India.

Mr. Sanchez is set to visit Mumbai on Tuesday (October 29, 2024) before heading back to Spain. On Monday morning, he will join Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a roadshow before jointly inaugurating the Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) facility in Vadodara.

The roadshow will stretch 2.5 km from the airport to the Tata facility and will feature cultural performances along the way. Following the roadshow, the two leaders will visit the historic Laxmi Vilas Palace for a bilateral meeting organized by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

Officials stated that they will have lunch at the palace before continuing to their respective destinations. Mr. Sanchez is scheduled to depart for Spain around 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday (October 30, 2024).

During his visit to Vadodara, Mr. Sanchez and Mr. Modi will inaugurate the TASL complex for manufacturing C-295 aircraft, marking India’s first private sector final assembly line for military aircraft. The Vadodara facility will produce 40 aircraft under an agreement, while Airbus will directly supply 16.

TASL will oversee the production of these aircraft in India, creating a comprehensive ecosystem encompassing manufacture, assembly, testing, qualification, delivery, and maintenance throughout the aircraft’s life cycle.

In addition to Tata, leading defense public sector units like Bharat Electronics and Bharat Dynamics, along with various private micro, small, and medium enterprises, will be involved in this initiative. Prime Minister Modi laid the foundation stone for the Vadodara assembly line in October 2022.
