At the 2024 Paris Olympics, athletes from around the world have assembled to vie for individual accolades and national pride.
As of Tuesday, the medal tally was being led by the U.S., Japan, China, and the host country, France.
A close competition unfolded between France and the USA. Following strong performances in skateboarding, swimming, and men’s gymnastics, the USA edged ahead to take the lead on Monday.
Simone Biles made history by winning a gold medal in women’s gymnastics, and becoming the most decorated Olympic gymnast.
Additionally, Team USA’s women’s rugby team made history on Tuesday by securing its first-ever medal with a bronze in the game against Australia. This achievement marks the first rugby medal for the U.S. since the men’s team won gold at the 1924 Paris Olympics.

With France at 571 athletes, the US is at the highest with 594 athletes.
Japan, the leading country in gold medals, has earned seven gold medals till now at the 2024 Paris Olympics. It is followed by China with six gold medals at the end of the day Tuesday.
Dominated in the past games, Russia is not allowed to compete this year. The International Olympic Committee banned Russia, along with Belarus, as part of sanctions following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
